Erick Green : "Film and Digital Cinematography"

Erick Green teaches "Film and Digital Cinematography" this summer

Cinematographer and USC Film School Cinematography Faculty member Erick Yates Green began his career as an archaeological architect in Israel and Jordan for the 5 years following his studies at The School of Design in North Carolina State University. While in the Middle East, Erick also worked as a documentarian, photographing the essay entitled In Praise of the Middle Ground (focusing on the village life in the Northern Israel) and a series of portraits of children in Jerusalem. He then returned to produce photographic projects in his native North Carolina, before enrolling in the graduate film/television program at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles where he obtained an MFA in Production. Early professional work in film/television industry included crewing in lighting and camera departments on television programs and on large and small feature films in the Los Angeles area, where he had the honor of assisting,among others, the wonderfully gifted cinematographer, Conrad L. Hall, ASC. Since stepping up to the roll of cinematographer, he has shot many short films, documentaries and commercials and four feature films including Love Philosophy, Prospect, Straight Out of Compton, and the Bollywood film entitled Banana Brothers, as well as most recently collaborating with cinematographer Jack Conroy on Gold Bracelet.

Andy Lane: "Directing Actors for the Screen"

Andrew Lane teaches "Directing Actors for the Screen" this summer.

Andrew Lane has produced over 25 feature films and movies for television including Valley Girl, Night of the Comet and Jake Speed. He has written part or all of most of those titles as well as having written for other producers and studios. He has directed numerous films including MGM’s Mortal Passions (winner at Deauville and Sundance competition entry), Lonely Hearts and original movies for CBS and Showtime.

He is currently the Chair of the Directing Department at the North Carolina School of the Arts School of Filmmaking and is a member of the adjunct faculty of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

"This is the aspect of visual storytelling most filmmakers know least about! This is where the learning curve is steepest and the results of this learning experience are the most profoundly positive and immediately useful for developing directors. No lie.

This class is incredibly helpful for not only directors, but writers, editors and producers as well.

Drea Clark: "Music Video Production"

Drea Clark teaches "Music Video Production" this summer.

About the class: We'll be concentrating on both the art and the business of music videos, studying historical and contemporary clips to learn the language of putting images to music, working on treatments and producing individual videos. Delving into specifics like cinematography, editing, art direction, choreography, and post production, we'll bring in experts and visit production companies. If you've ever watched a music video and wondered how to break into that world, this is the class for you.

About the teacher: After rising the ranks in production, Drea Clark served as the Executive Director for the Music Video Production Association (MVPA) from 2000-2007, overseeing the establishment of union contracts as well as producing the annual award show where she worked with directors such as Spike Jonze, David Fincher and Michel Gondry.

In addition to serving as a member of the Professional Faculty for USC’s Summer Program, Clark previously lectured at the University of Oulu, Finland and UCLA Extension.

She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Slamdance Film Festival, acting as the head of production and chair of feature competition programming. In addition to the film festival, Clark’s year-round divisions include screenplay, teleplay and horror competitions with development and production agreements as well as an independent video game competition.

Pablo Frasconi: "Creating Poetic Images"

Pablo Frasconi teaches "Creating Poetic Images" this summer.

As an independent filmmaker, Pablo Frasconi has received numerous national and regional grants and fellowships for film production, including the American Film Institute and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. His films, SURVIVAL OF A SMALL CITY, TOWARDS THE MEMORY OF A REVOLUTION, and THE WOODCUTS OF ANTONIO FRASCONI, have been broadcast on PBS and are distributed by the Museum of Modern Art and other organizations.Films are in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Modern Art,New York Public Library, and the Virginia Museum of Arts. He received his B.F.A.degree from York University in Toronto. He has taught filmmaking for several years at the New School for Social Research and the State University of New York, College at Purchase, and currently teaches at USC in Los Angeles.
